Palma Viewpoint
A striking stop between Sucevița and Vatra Moldoviței, marked by the Road Builders’ Monument and wide views over the Obcine hills.
Palma is the kind of stop that makes you slow down on DN17A. The monument stands on the pass, with meadows, forests, and the layered Obcine hills opening around it.
Park only away from the carriageway and check road conditions in winter. The viewpoint fits naturally into a route linking Sucevița Monastery, Moldovița Monastery, and the winding road between their valleys.
The Road Builders’ Monument was raised in the late 1960s to mark the meeting of the teams that built the road across the Obcine hills; locals simply call it “Palma”.
Ciumârna Pass sits at roughly 1,100 metres and connects the Moldovița valley with the Sucevița area. Palma is a road and cultural landmark, not just a photo stop: it recalls the people who carried the road across the Obcine hills.
