Medieval Seat Fortress of Suceava

Suceava’s Seat Fortress makes most sense at walking pace: climb towards the defensive ditch, cross the bridge, and discover the double enclosure from the level of the walls. Restoration does not replace history; it makes it easier to read.

Allow at least an hour for the fortress, then look out across the valley. Continue with the Bukovina Village Museum and central Suceava without leaving the city’s main route.

Built at the end of the 14th century under Petru I Mușat, the fortress was decisively strengthened by Stephen the Great in the 15th century. It remained a princely residence and defensive centre of Moldavia for almost two centuries.
