Bogdana Monastery
A founding landmark of Rădăuți and one of the oldest surviving stone churches in Moldavia.
In central Rădăuți, Bogdana has a quiet presence: the town moves around it, while the church keeps the scale and gravity of a place of beginnings. It is easy to pair with a walk through town.
Take in the ensemble from the courtyard, then step inside slowly. The princely graves, paintings, and objects preserved here deserve a few extra minutes, not a hurried photograph.
The Church of Saint Nicholas was founded after 1359 by Bogdan I and became Moldavia’s first princely necropolis, holding the graves of members of the Mușatin family.
The ensemble preserves the Church of Saint Nicholas, the bell tower, and the parish house. Rădăuți grew around this religious and administrative nucleus, and the church remains one of the key witnesses to medieval Moldavia’s beginnings.
