Humor Monastery

Red-toned frescoes, a remarkable hidden chamber, and a village worth exploring on foot.

At Humor, the brick-red frescoes create a different atmosphere from the other painted monasteries. The defensive tower and open porch give the complex an intimate scale that is easy to explore in a quiet hour.

Pair the visit with Voroneț and a walk through Mănăstirea Humorului. The short road between the two sites is one reason this area works so well for an unhurried day.

The church was built in 1530 at the initiative of Toader Bubuiog, an official under Petru Rareș. Its reddish frescoes and open porch make it easy to recognise among Bukovina’s monasteries.
