Moldovița Monastery
A monastery painted in ochre and blue, set among hills and mountain roads.
Moldovița sits in a broad valley, its painted walls opening like a story told in warm colours. Blue, ochre, and green change with the light, so do not rush after the first photograph.
It is a natural stop on the road between Câmpulung Moldovenesc and Ciumârna Pass. Leave time for the museum, the village, and the return drive through the Obcine hills.
The present monastery was founded in 1532 under Petru Rareș. Its exterior frescoes, including the famous “Siege of Constantinople”, belong to Bukovina’s UNESCO-listed painted churches.
